We are delighted to share that Sustainable Hayfield were recently the proud runners up in the Crompton and Woodcock Award 2024, in recognition of "Your Outstanding Contribution to the Community". Awarded by High Peak CVS

Apple Day 2024 - another wonderful day, here in pictures.
Thank you to all who made it happen and who came along.

Hayfield Biodiversity Group are delighted to announce that we have managed to obtain grant funding from the government's Species Survival Fund, administered by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, to carry out some woodland restoration works in Bluebell Wood, off the Sett Valley Trail. It is over 20 years since initial woodland improvement and accessibility work was carried out and it has developed into the popular Local Nature Reserve we have today. Over time, however, the path has degraded and the abundance and range of species in the wood has declined. In particular, there are significantly fewer native bluebells in recent years. Over the course of the winter, we will, in conjunction with Derbyshire County Council's Countryside Service, restore sections of the path and carry out some woodland management work. This will include selective thinning of trees, part-removal of invasive brambles, creation of dead-wood fences, log piles, etc. More details in the coming weeks, but there is plenty of opportunity for the community to help out with the various tasks, so watch this space!
